Volleyball sweeps Lewis & Clark

17th sweep of the season; Hosting Pink Out on Wednesday

10/11/2021 7:35:00 PM

Godfrey, Ill. - Although it was an extensive drive down to River Bend Arena in Godfrey for the ICC Volleyball team (21-10) on Monday evening, they were able to make quick work of in-region opponent Lewis & Clark (5-13), sweeping the host Trailblazers, three sets to none.

The scoring got off to an even start, somewhat of a theme the last few matches, but the Cougars prevailed in the opener, 25-20.

From there, it was dominance, with ICC barely allowing Lewis & Clark into double digits, taking sets two and three by identical 25-11 scores.

Lacy Pilgrim and Brooke Ely combined for 41 assists, while Hope Allen was able to lead the team in both digs and aces. Gracie Schultz took top spot in digs, with Hannah Alvey leading the way in kills.

ICC has a critical match looming next. Not only could it potentially determine who hosts the postseason District Tournament in early November, but it's also against an in-region and nationally-ranked foe in the eighth-ranked Heartland Hawks. The Cougars are also hosting a Pink Out, as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The team asks that fans come to Ramsey Gym dressed in their pink attire, while their current plan is to match that with their alternate pink uniforms. The match starts at 6:00pm from Ramsey Gym on Wednesday, October 13th. If additional details become available between now and Wednesday, we will be sure to pass those along.
