Hillsboro, Mo. - It was certainly there on paper. It would be a challenging weekend for the ICC Volleyball team (26-14, 9-1), taking on all-Division I teams in a four-match invitational at Jefferson College. The Cougars were not able to win a set over the course of the weekend, getting swept by D1 #11 Seward County, D1 Jefferson College, D1 #2 Iowa Western (defending National Champion), and D1 #7 Missouri State-West Plains. Although it all shows up in the loss column, it was certainly a group of matches that has tested (RV) ICC heading into the regular season finale.
The Cougars will host in-region foe Lincoln Land on Wednesday in a must-win match. There are a couple different scenarios. The most important ones are listed:
ICC beats Lincoln Land: Heartland vs. Rend Lake on Oct. 30 doesn't matter; Cougars HOST Districts
ICC loses to Lincoln Land, Heartland beats Rend Lake: Cougars TRAVEL for Districts (Champaign)
Both ICC and Heartland lose their last district matches: Cougars would still HOST Districts
The Lincoln Land match is also Sophomore Night. On top of that, the students are planning a "Western" theme, and fans are more than welcome to join in on the fun as well. The ICC - Lincoln Land match starts at 6:00pm on Wednesday, October 27th, from East Peoria.
