Champaign, Ill. - The ICC Volleyball team (17-10, 7-1) was ready to go for a matchup atop the Region 24 standings with rivals and third-ranked Parkland (33-3, 11-0).
Parkland was able to control the first set for the most part, behind a good hitting percentage and capitalizing on attack errors by ICC. The Cobras took the opener, 25-15.
The second set was a much different story. Although Parkland did get an early start, ICC was able to reverse course and get back within striking distance. Late in the set, it was a battle of service errors, as neither team was able to consistently place a set. In the end, Parkland would prevail and take a commanding 2-0 lead.
Another competitive set in the third, and this time, it was the Cougars with a hot start to the set, getting ahead by as much as a 10-5 margin. The early run would force both frustration and a subsequent timeout on the Parkland sideline. However, the hosts were able to recover the momentum they had lost, tying it back up at 16-16, and they never looked back. Parkland would take the third set by a 25-22 score.
The loss is just ICC's third by an 0-3 score all season, with the other two being back-to-back matches at the Iowa Central Tournament in early September, while the latter was top-ranked Iowa Central.
ICC will play Joliet at 4:00 p.m. to wrap up their time at the Parkland Tri-Match.
