12/11/2021 5:31:00 PM

East Peoria, Ill.---The #6 ICC women's basketball team used a suffocating first half defense to score a 103-52 win over Kankakee CC on Saturday afternoon.  The Cougars limited the Cavs to just 2-13 shooting from the field to take a 21-5 first quarter lead and never looked back. It was the second consecutive game that the ladies reached the century mark as they handed out 28 assists on 39 field goals.

Cierra McNamee followed up her career day from a week ago with 24 points (10-15 FG shooting) while pulling down 9 rebounds.  She got help from 6'2 center Keijah Gray who added 17 points (8-9 FG shooting) and shooting guard Dayja Evans who went a perfect 4-4 from three-point range en route to 17 points.  Courtney Jones (7 assists) and Kayla Gordon (5 assists) combined to account for nearly half of the Cougars' assists to feed the scoring.

McNamee set the tone from the start as she scored the Cougars' first five points on a put-back and an old-fashioned three-point play.  She and Gray scored eight points apiece in the opening frame on a variety of post moves and offensive rebounds to score 16 of the Cougars' first 21 points.  Despite KCC's efforts to pack the paint in a 2-3 zone, McNamee and Gray each continued to dominate inside as they scored nine points apiece in the second quarter.  Evans added two three-pointers to keep the defense honest and give ICC a 48-17 halftime edge.

Kankakee found an offensive rhythm to start the third quarter as they put up a 22 points but the Cougar offense kept pace on three-pointers from Raquel Frakes, Evans, and Kyleigh Block.  Kristyn Mitchell and McNamee scored in the paint giving ICC a 75-39 lead heading into the final period.  ICC kept on the attack until the final buzzer as all Cougars scored.
