#19 Volleyball returns home Friday

Looking to snap four-match slide

9/10/2021 7:26:00 AM

East Peoria, Ill. - The #19 ICC volleyball team (7-7) has an opportunity to return home to Ramsey Gym to try and snap their current four-match losing streak, their longest since September 2018.

A great way to do that can be in front of the home faithful, where the Cougars have not lost since October 10th, 2019, a five-set decision at the hands of Sauk Valley.

Jefferson College, Friday's opponent, is (2-4) on the young season. However, despite being two matches under a .500 record, the Vikings are on a hot streak, winning their last two consecutive regular matches (and one exhibition), with their most recent match ending in a 3-0 sweep over East Central Missouri on September 1st. That's a nine-day layoff between matches for the visitors. Ironically, the Vikings had a four-match losing streak of their own that came at the start of their 2021 schedule, thus assembling their current (2-4) record.

The Vikings are coached by Aida Steiger, who is just the second coach in program history (since 1975). She replaced Hall-of-Famer Jo Ellen Stringer, who coached from 1975-2008 and is the namesake of the basketball/volleyball court there in Hillsboro, Missouri.

The Cougars will try to secure the win and avoid falling under .500. A note that the match is on its own, not joined by two other matches for a tri-match, this coming after Moraine Valley dropped out of the tourney, meaning ICC vs. Jefferson will be the only match on Friday.
