East Peoria, Ill. - The brief time slot off before their second match of the day was just enough for the ICC Volleyball team (10-8) to recharge and get yet another sweep, their ninth of the season, this time over the Warriors of Rend Lake, who had entered the match with a quality (9-2) record.

It was a hotly contested opening set, with neither team truly giving in until the end, with ICC edging out the Warriors, 25-22. 

As for the second set, it was a completely different story. The Cougars came out of the set break red hot and did not look back, holding the visitors to a mere 25-8 score. 

The third set returned to the match's original state of a back-and-forth battle. Although the Cougars got as far ahead as 11-5, the Warriors just would not go away. ICC was not able to secure a 10-point lead until a Rend Lake attack error made it 17-7. A powerful swing from Hannah Alvey turned into a kill and an 18-8 score.

Being the first team to 20 points is often considered a turning point. With yet another kill from Alvey, the Cougars would go up 20-9. With the Cougars increasing their lead to 21-9, the Warriors called what would turn out to be their final timeout of the match. 

The Warriors were able to breach into double figures, but that was all they could muster. With Hope Allen serving on set point, it was an ace off a mishit from Rend Lake that ended it, 25-12. 

It was the Cougars' ninth sweep within their 10 wins on the fall 2021 season. They'll quickly turn around and make the drive to Mountain Dew Court in Quincy for a tri-match with Lincoln Trail (3pm) and John Wood (5pm). A key match looms next week, with the Cougars hosting #5-ranked Sauk Valley next Thursday.
