East Peoria, Ill.---Setters Booke Ely and
Lacy Pilgrim combined for 40 assists to engineer the ICC volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over Southeastern Iowa on Friday night in Ramsey Gym. The Cougars and Blackhawks battled back and forth but the hosts eventually prevailed 25-16, 25-16, and 25-17 to get back on the winning track.
ICC was in control from the start in Set 1, taking a 12-9 lead that stretched to 18-13 after a great dig by
Hope Allen that led to a Cougar kill. ICC steadily kept the momentum and ended the set on a kill by
Raquel Frakes. Southeastern took a 6-4 advantage in the second set, but the Cougars responded and took control at 18-12 following a double block by
Ashlyn Mool and Frakes.
Summer Sheley ended the set with two consecutive kills to give ICC the set at 25-16.
In Set 3, the Cougars took a 9-6 lead but the Blackhawks went on a 5-0 run to grab the lead at 11-9. Sheley responded with two kills (sets Ely) which sparked an ICC spurt to go up 18-13. Frakes got a kill,
Gracie Schultz a block and a
Hannah Alvey kill helped finish off the Blackhawks to take the set and the match.
