Boone, Iowa - It certainly is a challenging slate for the 16th-ranked ICC Volleyball program (19-9). After all, their time at the Des Moines Area Tournament features three teams within the Top 11 of the latest NJCAA Division II poll, and they played #6 (Iowa Central) and #9 (Kirkwood) in consecutive matches in day one. While the opener may not have gone quite as well for ICC (lost 3-1 vs. #6 Iowa Central), the Cougars flipped the script versus #9 Kirkwood, outlasting the Top 10 Eagles in four closely contested sets.
The Kirkwood win marks the third Top 20 win for
Tracy Heffren and company in 2022, and the first within the top 10 of the poll. Within regular season matches and the Division II poll, it was ICC's first Top 10 win since defeating then-#1 Parkland in East Peoria during the 2020-21 COVID 19-affected season.
