East Peoria, Ill. - The ICC men's basketball team (6-6) got back into the win column on Monday night at home by beating Illinois Valley Community College. The Cougars won, 94-82.
The Cougars came out swinging in the first half by using their full court press and forcing turnovers. They held IVCC to just three points in the first eight minutes. ICC held a 19-3 lead with about 12 minutes left in the first half. The Eagles returned the favor in the last 10 minutes of play by cutting the lead to nine points at the break, 42-33.
The second half started off slow for both teams while ICC was able to maintain the lead. Then the Eagles went on a run and cut the Cougars lead to just three. With nine minutes remaining ICC was holding on, 66-63. After a timeout called by head coach Tony Wysinger, the Cougars came with intensity and got a few fast break dunks allowing them to regain a eight point lead and forcing an IVCC timeout. Both teams continued to trade buckets but in the end ICC won 94-82.
