Cierra McNamee,
Elena Redgate, and
Halie Gilbert combined for fifty points in the #14 Illinois Central College women's basketball team's 91-63 victory over Waubonsee at the Morton College Classic on Saturday afternoon. McNamee poured in 21 points and yanked down 7 rebounds, Redgate had 15 points, while Gilbert added 14 points and 5 assists as all players scored to get the Cougars back in the win column.
"We were proud of how our kids responded from last night's disappointing performance," coach
Karrie Redeker said. "Waubonsee is a different team than Morton but it was still great to see our kids play with intensity and gain confidence in each other."
McNamee's 12 points in the opening quarter equaled the output of the entire WCC squad as she scored on several nice passes in the short corner and paint against the Chiefs' zone defense. Gilbert was also the beneficiary of some dimes as she tallied six points to help ICC take a 27-12 lead after one.
Waubonsee worked to take away the inside game which opened things up on the perimeter and the Cougar shooters were more than ready to take advantage as
Miya Webb (two three-pointers),
Peyton Dearing, and
Paris Wilson nailed treys in the quarter as ICC doubled up the score at 52-26 by the half.
The Cougars struggled a bit to start the third period but Redgate's eight points kept the Cougars' lead comfortable at 68-43. Dearing and
Laisha Armendariz Lopez added three-pointers in the fourth as all Cougars scored.
