Canton, Ill. - The sixth-ranked ICC women's basketball team (16-9, 6-3) fell to Spoon River (12-12, 3-6), 70-62, in MWAC and Region 24 action at Mid-America National Bank Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Cougars got out of the gates slowly and played catch-up all night but did not do quite enough in the second half to get the win.
The Snappers opened the game leading 8-2, but the Cougars rallied behind seven points from
Cierra McNamee and trailed 16-14 after the opening frame. McNamee added seven more points in the second frame to keep ICC within one at the half, 28-27.
Spoon River bottled up the interior in the third quarter to take a 43-38 lead heading into the final period which was a back-and forth affair but SRC answered every ICC run at critical moments. The hosts closed out the game with solid free throw shooting to off-set five Cougar treys in the final couple of minutes.
