Kankakee, Ill. - Cierra McNamee and
Miya Webb each tallied career highs as the #8 Illinois Central College women's basketball team (10-5) cruised to a 95-58 victory over Kankakee on Wednesday evening at the Ryan Activities Center. McNamee, who earlier in the day announced her verbal commitment to play next season at NCAA DII Lewis University, went 12-18 from the field while pulling down nine rebounds. Webb nailed three three-pointers en route to 16 points and
Peyton Dearing added 14 points and three assists for the Cougars, who tallied 28 assists on the night.
McNamee had a put-back and Dearing a three-pointer to get things going for the Cougars.
Naomi Elliott got out on the break and found McNamee and
Kyleigh Block for scores as ICC led 13-7 midway through the period. The team turned up the defensive efforts, forcing several Kankakee turnovers and turning those into baskets, including three treys from Webb and one from McNamee to take a 29-12 first quarter lead.
The Cougars kept the defensive pressure on while McNamee continued her work on the offensive end, pouring in eleven points in the quarter (including a trey of her own) to double up the halftime score at 56-28.
ICC kept the foot on the gas to start the third as McNamee,
Laisha Armendariz, Dearing, and
Halie Gilbert scored early to take a 65-32 lead and eventually a 78-43 lead after three. The final quarter saw the Cougars distribute the ball unselfishly to get the big win.
