12/2/2023 3:22:00 PM

Mattoon, Ill. - On Saturday, the ICC women's basketball team (4-4) found itself on the heels of a loss to #5 Morton College the night prior. The benefit of the scheduling of an event such as the Lake Land Classic, the Cougars were able to turn right back around and take on the Olive-Harvey Panthers (0-7) less than 24 hours later. The Cougars were able to prevail through a physical style of play that the Panthers presented, and came away with an 89-60 win, marking ICC's most points in a game this season and most since defeating Kankakee with 95 points in January of last season.

The Cougars came out on the attack, taking a 7-0 lead behind scores from Savannah Orgeron and Addi SwadinskyParis Wilson nailed a three-pointer and Cora DeSutter added five points to help ICC to an 18-9 lead after one.

Jhanel Coleman had two put-backs for scores and baskets by Swadinsky, DeSutter and Miya Webb increased the lead to 28-14 midway through the second period.  A three-pointer by Orgeron from the top of the key in the final minute of the half gave the Cougars a 39-18 halftime advantage.

ICC stayed in control for the remainder of the game as Orgeron and Swadinsky scored on assists by Webb.  Wilson had a baseline drive and Naomi Elliott hit an open jumper to put the Cougars up 66-38 heading into the final stanza.

ICC's metaphorical "Region 4 Tour" will continue next Wednesday, when they host the Carl Sandburg Chargers, who defeated Lake County on Saturday, 70-60. It's the first time the Cougars have played the Chargers in four years (December 2019) and the first time they've battled at Ramsey Gym since December of 2018.
