East Peoria, Ill. - The (RV) Illinois Central College women's basketball team (13-7, 3-1) used a strong defensive effort in the first half to defeat the Lewis & Clark Trailblazers (1-11, 0-4) in Region 24 & Midwest Athletic Conference (MWAC) action on Wednesday night at Ramsey Gym. The Cougars took a 44-16 lead into the halftime break, limiting the Trailblazers to just 17% shooting from the field (5-30) in getting a 81-52 victory.

The Cougars shared the ball well, dishing out 23 assists to get 29 field goals, while five players reached double figures: Savannah Orgeron (15 points), Miya Webb (14 points), Jhanel Coleman (13 points), Naomi Elliott (11 points), and Cora DeSutter (11 points). Elliott led the assist effort with six dimes on the evening, while Elena Redgate and Addi Swadinsky each dished out four.

ICC took a 21-12 lead behind Webb and Elliott (combined for 12 points), while Orgeron and Saniya Tutt each had three points. The Cougars dealt the knockout punch in the second quarter, out-scoring the visitors 23-4 as Imari McDuffy, Webb (twice), and Orgeron dialed in from downtown, with Elliott, DeSutter, and Coleman each adding baskets, as ICC took the big lead into the break.

Lewis & Clark found their offensive rhythm in the third to score 17 points, but the Cougars countered with trips to the free throw line and threes by DeSutter and Orgeron to go along with baskets from Coleman and Redgate.

The Trailblazers did outscore the Cougars in the final stanza, but the margin was too much and ICC took the 29-point win.
