Godfrey, IL - The 12th-ranked Illinois Central College Men's Soccer team (8-2-2, 3-1-1) took to the road to head down and play Region/Conference foe Lewis & Clark on Saturday afternoon. A tightly contested match just over a month prior, more of the same was expected when the Cougars made the return trip to Godfrey. It would be another close match, but this time, a flurry of second half action powered the Trailblazers to a victory over the short-handed Cougars, handing ICC it's first in-region defeat of the 2024 season.
Lewis & Clark struck first during the midsection of the first half, succeeding on a penalty kick to go up 1-0, a lead they would maintain into the halftime break.
The action would pick up somewhat on the back half of the game, with
Adam Pike finding the net off of a free kick in the 60th minute to tie it all up at one goal apiece.
Roughly 10 minutes later, the Traiblazers would counter again for a 2-1 lead, and again in the half's latter moments to put the match away.
The Cougars have a couple key matches down the home stretch, traveling to Southwestern Illinois next Wednesday in the MWAC/Region finale, and hosting D2 region 24 member Heartland on Sunday, October 20th.
