Five in double figures as ICC moves to (4-2)

11/20/2024 11:46:00 PM

East Peoria, IL - Freshman Kaitlin White scored a career-high 24 points as the 18th-ranked Illinois Central College Women's Basketball team (4-2) hit the century mark in a 100-66 win over Black Hawk (3-2) on Wednesday night. It was the first time ICC had scored 100 points in a regular season game since a win over Kankakee on December 11th, 2021.

White shot 10-15 from the field, including a 4-7 effort from three-point range, as several Cougars had strong statistical outputs - Lily Luczkowiak (17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists), Cora DeSutter (11 points, 9 rebounds), Addy Engel (10 points, 3 assists), and Karmyn Heider (10 points, 3 rebounds) make up that group.

ICC dominated in all areas, dishing out a season-high 28 assists in the victory, as Addi Swadinsky tied her career-high with eight and Lauren Maas set a new early career high with five. The Cougars shot 54% on the night, connecting on 40-74 field goal attempts (10-27 from three-point range), while holding the Braves to just 25% shooting (16-63). ICC also won bench scoring, out-scoring Black Hawk 38-8. The Braves did win the free throw battle, going 29-35 from the charity stripe, compared to the Cougars' 10-13.

After the teams played to an 11-11 tie in the early going, ICC began to create distance with a suffocating defense and solid team basketball, with seven players scoring in the opening quarter (led by Luczkowiak with seven points) for a 27-16 advantage.

Baskets by Heider and Engel gave ICC a double-digit lead and two scores by White opened up a 35-21 lead midway through the second. DeSutter got in on the action for a score and Maas got a steal and layup as ICC went into the locker room ahead 47-32.

Luczkowiak and White opened the half with baskets, as the Cougars' depth continued to wear down Black Hawk to stretch the lead to 54-34. Heider had a put-back and White added another trey for a 74-48 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Highlights in the final stanza included an Emily Dana three-pointer (assist Engel), and treys by Heider and Madison Jobe (assists Khalise Thomas) for the final margin.
