Springfield, Ill. - A tough shooting day and poor rebounding effort for the Illinois Central College women's basketball team (16-10, 6-4) led to a 65-40 loss to #9 Lincoln Land (23-3, 9-1) in Region 24/MWAC action on Saturday afternoon at Cass Gym. The Cougars managed to connect on just 29% of their shots, including a 1-17 showing in the second quarter, to suffer the loss. 

"Today was not our day," coach Karrie Redeker said. "We couldn't buy a basket in the second quarter, and then came out of the half with a chance to turn the tide early in the third, but didn't convert and things went downhill from there. We'll continue to learn and make improvements."

Lincoln Land owned two important categories, dominating on the board (50-30) and at the free throw line (18-14). When it came to free throws, ICC went 5-7. 

Cora DeSutter had the hot hand early with seven first quarter points, and Savannah Orgeron added five points as the Loggers held an 18-16 lead after one. Lincoln Land went on a 12-0 run to start the second quarter to take control of the game as the Cougars would have continuous empty possessions. A DeSutter bucket was all ICC could muster in the quarter and they went into halftime trailing 32-18. 

The Cougars got two steals on their first defensive possessions but turned the ball over both times to thwart chances at turning the momentum. Imari McDuffy nailed a three-pointer that drew the Cougars to within 35-21, but the day belonged to the Loggers, as they took a 51-28 advantage into the final frame. Naomi Elliott had two baskets in the fourth quarter.
