East Peoria, Ill. - The (RV) Illinois Central Cougars women's basketball team (14-9, 4-3) lost 69-62 to John Wood (11-10, 4-3) in Region 24/MWAC action on Saturday afternoon at Ramsey Gym. The Cougars were up by one point headed into the fourth quarter, but John Wood's offense was able to find holes in the ICC defense and the Cougars went cold at game's end, leading to the loss.
Cora DeSutter notched her second career double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
The Cougars got off to a strong start, taking a 9-4 lead in the early going until John Wood got going and went on a run to grab a 22-16 lead after the first quarter. DeSutter got hot in the second quarter, hitting two treys and adding another score, and the Cougar defense tightened to get ICC back even at the half at 33-33.
Saniya Tutt gave a spark in the first half, adding six points.
The third quarter saw the see-saw affair continue as neither team led by more than three point and ICC took a narrow 51-50 lead into the final frame. John Wood started the quarter on a 10-3 run to make the score 60-53, which ended up being the difference in the game, as ICC could not get the scores or defensive stops they needed to get even again.

Savannah Orgeron three-pointer with 35 seconds left drew the Cougars to within 62-60, but the Blazers closed out the game with free throws.
Final stats showed the Cougars going just 4-21 (19%) from three-point range and 8-15 (53%) from the line, while John Wood went 8-24 (33%) from distance and 15-22 (68%) from the free throw line.
