Farmington, MO - The Illinois Central College men's golf team hit the links at Crown Pointe Golf Club to tee off on the Spring 2024 season. The Cougars powered ahead with a 7-0 lead after the morning rounds. Now, only six points were on the table in the afternoon rounds, so ICC had effectively already secured the win. Alas, Mineral Area won two of the three matches in the PM hours to give the Cougars a 9-4 match play victory.
ICC battled season-opening jitters in the morning through the first three-six holes, but a surge in advance of the mid-day brake gave the Cougars leads of two and three holes after matches one through five.
Brady Gruden and
Luke Markley both had fallen behind with five holes to play, but a redemption arc on the back end allowed both two take two and one victories.
COMMENTS FROM COACH KENNEDY
"For the first tournament of the Spring, a really solid team effort today for the Cougars. The Cougars have had quite a few competitive intrasquad practices already this spring. It was nice to finally get a chance to play an opponent rather than a teammate."
