East Peoria, IL - The Illinois Central College men's soccer team (3-0-0) took to the pitch at Eastside Centre on Saturday afternoon, battling the Chaparrals of DuPage at Eastside Centre. The Cougars and Chaps played to a drawn halftime score, but ICC's attack surged in the second half and would end up with a 4-1 victory and continue the team's unbeaten start to the Fall 2024 campaign.
The theme continued for Coach Gabe Carreno's squad of not just the attack working in general, but the variety in which it presented itself.
While the Cougars would eventually score four goals, they'd played to a 1-1 draw at the half, with the initial goal coming from
Adam Pike (assist
Jonah Bijvank).
By the end of the match, all four goals would be scored by different players, and of the three that were of the assisted variety, all three assists were from different players.
Edgar Ludena continued his hot goal-scoring start to the season with a successful attempt off a free kick, in what would become the match-winning goal.
Jay Patel found
Brandon Castro to go up 3-1, and
Kristian Istocki, who scored twice in Wednesday's win at Southeastern Iowa, scored one against DuPage as well, with
Yahir Meza assisting him on this particular goal.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE COUGARS
The Cougars have two more matches at home before going on an extended road trip of sorts. ICC welcomes Southwestern Illinois at 5PM on Tuesday, September 3rd, and Lewis & Clark on Saturday, September 7th at 5PM. After those two matchups, the Cougars are not home until the end of the month (Indian Hills - Saturday, September 28th).
