East Peoria, IL - The 13th-ranked Illinois Central College Men's Soccer team (6-1-2) played host to a marquee matchup on Saturday afternoon, hosting the third-ranked Warriors from Indian Hills (9-0-1). Taking on a defense in the Warriors who hasn't allowed more than two goals in a game all season, it would be a stark test in trying to find the back of the net. Neither team could find the scoreboard in the first half, but a flurry of second half goals, particularly from the visitors, powered them to a 3-1 victory.
The first 45 minutes were played quite tight, with the aforementioned scoreless draw being the result at the break.
Offensive adjustments were made at the half, and to varying degrees of each other, both teams saw improvement. The Warriors were first to it, scoring their opening goal off of a free kick opportunity.
The Cougars remained focused despite conceding the goal and drew 1-1 on a goal from
Kristian Istocki (assist
Jay Patel) all of five minutes later.
From there, Indian Hills would evenly split two more goals, scoring once off of a corner kick and again while on the attack within the match's last 15 minutes.
Istocki's goal was his fifth of the season, bringing him into a two-way tie with
Edgar Ludena for the team lead in that category.
The Cougars are back in action next Wednesday, when they travel down Interstate-74 to face rivals and D2 foe Parkland in Champaign. The match is set for a 4PM kickoff from the Dodds Athletic Complex.
