#14 WBB defeats Danville Area

Cougars now (5-0) in Region 24; host John Wood on Wednesday

1/20/2025 6:47:00 PM

Danville, IL - Addy Engel and Lily Luczkowiak combined for 41 points to propel the 14th-ranked Illinois Central College Women's Basketball team (14-4, 5-0) to a 76-57 win at Danville Area on Monday afternoon. Engel had a career-high 23 points on 8-12 shooting (including 3-3 from three-point range), while Luczkowiak had 18 points (7-11 shooting) and nine rebounds.

Madison Jobe and Savannah Orgeron each added 11 points, as the Cougar bench, again, did their job, outscoring the Danville Area reserves on the day, 30-5. Lauren Maas had a career-high 10 rebounds to go along with five assists, while Addi Swadinsky had seven rebounds and three assists. The Cougars shot 47% from the field (27-57 total and 8-20 from three-point range), while hodling the Jaguars to 30% (21-71 total) shooting.

"This was another quality win by our team," coach Karrie Redeker said. "Danville has really good guard play, but we got hot from three-point range to get a lead, and then stayed aggressive on both ends of the floor."

Swadinsky and Luczkowiak got ICC on the board with early layups, as the teams played to a nine-all tie to open the game. Engel then nailed a three-pointer that ignited a barrage of treys, as Kamryn Heider hit one three-pointer and Jobe hit back-to-back-to-back triples to open up a 23-16 Cougar advantage. The Jaguars closed the quarter with five straight points to close their deficit to 23-21 at the end of the quarter.

Layups by Engel, Luczkowiak, and Larissa Taylor kept the Cougars moving forward, and then Orgeron nailed a three-pointer for a 36-28 lead. Luczkowiak hit two layups in the final minute of the half (assists Swadinsky and Engel), as ICC held a 43-36 lead at intermission.

The Cougar defense stayed strong in the third as Engel had a steal and layup. Luczkowiak and Orgeron added putbacks along with an Engel trey and key tip-in at the buzzer for a 59-48 lead after three quarters.

Both offenses stalled somewhat in the fourth before ICC got layups by Engel, Luczkowiak, DeSutter, Orgeron, and Heider for the final margin.
