Cougars finish front half of Region play (8-0)

Godfrey, IL - The seventh-ranked Illinois Central College Women's Basketball team (17-4, 8-0) nailed 13 three-pointers en route to a 96-64 win over Lewis & Clark (3-19, 0-8) on Wednesday night. Addy Engel (18), Kaitlin White (15), Madison Jobe (14), and Kamryn Heider (12) all reached double figures, while Addi Swadinsky filled the stat sheet with four points, nine assists, six rebounds, four steals, and two blocks. The win was the ninth in a row for the Cougars, and their 12th win in their last 13 games. 

Both offenses started slowly, with ICC taking a 5-4 lead at the 5:00 minute mark of the first quarter. A three-pointer by Gracie Heckert started a 9-0 run for the Cougars as Heider, Savannah Orgeron, and White all scored. Jobe hit two treys and Cora DeSutter had a layup for a 25-11 lead after the opening quarter. 

Lewis & Clark had a small spurt to close the gap to 29-18, but ICC responded with a 12-0 run for some breathing room as Engel scored (assist Emily Dana), Dana hit a three (assist Swadinsky), Engel had an offensive putback, DeSutter made a layup, and Heider had a putback for a now 41-18 lead. The Trailblazers then went on a run of their own to cut their halftime deficit to 48-33. 

Lewis & Clark went on a 5-0 run to start the half to make the score 48-38, but a layup by DeSutter (assist Larissa Taylor) and steal/layup by Swadinsky pushed the lead back out to 52-38. Heider and White combined for the rest of the Cougar points in the quarter as ICC held a 69-56 lead heading into the fourth. 

The Cougars played better defense in the final period to win the quarter 27-11. Jobe had two treys and two blocks, Engel had six points, and there was a reverse layup from Taylor for the final margin.
