East Peoria, IL - The 17th-ranked Illinois Central College Women's Basketball team (10-4, 1-0) began Region 24 play with a bang as they rolled to a 115-40 win over Spoon River (3-10, 0-2) on Wednesday evening at Ramsey Gym. The Cougars shot 13-21 from three point range, led by freshman
Kamryn Heider's six treys, as she netted a career-high 20 points.
Cora DeSutter (17 points),
Savannah Orgeron (15 points),
Emily Dana (career-high 13 points),
Addy Engel (13 points),
Khalise Thomas (career-high 11 points), and
Lily Luczkowiak (11 points) were all in double figures.
Lauren Maas (7),
Addi Swadinsky (6), Thomas (5), and Engel (5) combined for 23 of the Cougars' 32 assists. Dana led the rebounding effort with a career-high nine caroms while Luczkowiak had five steals.
Luzkowiak had seven early points to pace the Cougars to a 31-10 first quarter lead. Heider then heated up, nailing three treys in the second quarter, while
Gracie Heckert splashed in two and Orgeron added one to give ICC a 66-22 halftime advantage.
The Cougars worked on their half-court offense in the third quarter, as Heider added two more bombs from long-distance to put ICC in front 95-30 heading into the final frame.
Thomas sprung for six points in the fourth quarter and
Madison Jobe splashed in a three-pointer for the final margin.
