Yahir Pacheco Vargas scored two goals and
Nathan Le Roux added another as the #2 seeded Illinois Central College men's soccer team beat Southwestern Illinois 3-1 in the Region 24 semi-finals on Tuesday afternoon at Eastside Centre. The win advances the Cougars to Saturday's championship, where they will play #1 seeded Lewis & Clark at Glazebrook Park in Godfrey at 1:00 pm.
Le Roux got the Cougars on the board in the 7th minute from a penalty kick due to a handball inside the box for a 1-0 lead.
Pacheco's first goal came in the 32nd minute off a great press from the team and assist from
Pierrot Mourton for a 2-0 advantage.
Pacheco struck again in the 80th minute on a counter attack and assist from
Alec Benny. SWIC scored their goal in the flow of play at the 83rd minute for the final 3-1 score.
The win moves ICC's record to 10-4-4 on the year and sets up a rubber match game with LCCC on Saturday, with each team winning on their home turf earlier in the season. ICC won in East Peoria on September 27 by a score of 2-1 and the Trailblazers won 2-1 on October 7 in Godfrey.
