Baton Rouge, LA - The #5 Illinois Central College women's basketball team rolled over Division I Baton Rouge CC 85-48 in both teams' season opener on Friday night in the BRCC Classic. Lily Luczkowiak led the way with 23 points while sophomore transfer Maziah Shelton (Joliet West HS) just missed a double-double in her first action as a Cougar with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Morton products Addy Engel added 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists while freshman Ellie VanMeenen had 10 points, 3 steals and took a charge.

Luczkowiak's 10 points in the opening frame got ICC off and running for a 22-14 first quarter lead. The Cougars increased their advantage in the second stanza, getting several defensive stops which led to scores in transition. Freshman A'Meah Lester (Normal Community) had a layup and a three-ball, Kam Heider added two scores, and VanMeenen's charge taken helped give the Cougars a 41-24 advantage at the break.

ICC broke the game open in the third using a balanced attack. Luczkowiak and VanMeenen combined for ten points in the quarter and then the Cougars used back-to-back-to-back-to-back treys from Heider, Engel, freshman Hannah West (Limestone HS), and Emily Dana to forge a big 69-36 lead. Freshman Piper Whiteman (Lincoln HS) added two scores as well.

The fourth period was more of the same as VanMeenen added a triple and Shelton added six points.
