East Peoria, IL - The 10th-ranked Illinois Central College Women's Basketball team (24-6, 14-2) scored in bunches on their way to a 103-41 victory over Lewis & Clark on Sophomore Day on Saturday afternoon in Region 24 action. The Cougars nailed 13 three-pointers as every player hit the scoring column in what was the final regular season game for both teams. The win gave ICC a share of the Midwest Athletic Conference Championship, their first since the 2019-2020 season.
The home team had things rolling from the beginning, as
Lily Luczkowiak,
Larissa Taylor,
Addy Engel, and
Savannah Orgeron all scored inside for an early 14-4 lead.
Lauren Maas found Engel inside on the break and
Kamryn Heider nailed a three-pointer just before the buzzer sounded for a 23-12 first quarter lead.
The second quarter opened with a
Kaitlin White score, Engel baseline drive, and Orgeron post-up as the Cougars opened up a 35-16 advantage at the 5:04 mark. The next five minutes was a shooting clinic, as ICC's next seven scores came on either three-pointers or potential three-point plays.
Freshman sharpshooter
Madison Jobe swished three three-pointers in a row (second such occurrence this season; @ Danville - January 20th) on assists from the guards (
Addi Swadinsky, Maas, and
Khalise Thomas) and then Jobe found Orgeron for a trifecta to stretch the lead to 45-19. Maas and
Cora DeSutter each had old-fashioned three-point plays and Thomas nailed another trey as ICC held a 55-21 halftime lead.
Gracie Heckert opened the third with a three-pointer (assist Swadinsky) and then Heckert returned the favor, as Swadinsky tickled the twine for three from the right wing. Orgeron added another trey followed by Engel and
Kaitlin White layups for a 68-27 lead. Heider and Jobe combined for three more long-range bombs and an 85-24 lead. The Cougars stayed on the attack, as
Emily Dana scored in transition along with points in the paint from DeSutter and Swadinsky as ICC cruised to the win.
