Centralia, Ill. - The #8 Illinois Central College women's basketball team jumped out to an early lead on Wednesday night and rolled to a 77-34 win over Kaskaskia in Region 24 action. The Cougars had things working on both ends of the court as they swiped 15 steals and dished out 21 assists, moving their record to 19-3 overall and 6-2 in Region play. KC dropped to 6-14 and 1-7.
Larissa Taylor led in scoring with 12 points while
Maziah Shelton, fresh off of being named Region 24 Player of the Week, had her fourth consecutive double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cougars jumped out to a 16-2 first quarter lead behind two
Addy Engel scores, a three-pointer by
Emily Dana,
Lily Luczkowiak and Taylor layups, and free throws by Shelton. ICC kept rolling in the second on a Shelton old-fashioned three-point play (assist Engel) and two layups by Luczkowiak to go up 34-11. The Blue & Gold eventually went into the locker room ahead 43-15 after
Ellie VanMeenen's putback and free throw in the final minute of the half.
The third quarter saw the action stall a bit for both teams, as ICC managed only ten points in the period for a 55-27 advantage. The Cougars picked up the defense in the fourth, which led to the final margin.
