East Peoria, IL - The #2 Illinois Central College had their 12-game winning streak broken on Wednesday evening as they lost 68-51 to #12 Parkland in Region 24 action in Ramsey Gym. The Cobras led from start to finish to drop ICC to 14-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 24. 

Addy Engel led the Cougars with 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists for ICC. Parkland improved to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in Region play.

"We were behind the eight-ball all night," coach Karrie Redeker said. "Parkland took it to us and we battled but couldn't ever get over the hump. We'll work to get things corrected and learn from this."

Parkland took an early 7-0 lead and eventually an 11-8 lead after one quarter of play. Engel and Maziah Shelton each scored two baskets in the second period but Parkland kept the pressure on, forcing 12 Cougar miscues in the first half en route to a 30-23 lead.

The Cougars pulled to within 32-28 after an Ellie VanMeenen trey (assist Engel) but PC answered with a run to take a 50-37 lead after three. The fourth quarter saw the Cobras pull away for the final margin. Final stats showed the Cougars shot 34.5% (19-55) while Parkland shot 41.7% (30-72). PC also won the battle of the boards 48-36.

Other: The Illini Bluffs 7th and 8th grade girls' basketball teams were recognized at halftime for their 3rd & 4th place finishes at the IESA State Tournament. The Morton Red Wings Special Olympics basketball team also scrimmaged at halftime.
