Godfrey, IL - The Illinois Central College men's basketball team took home the win against Lewis and Clark Community College, 85-81, on Saturday. The Cougars are 14-6 on the season.
ICC started the game off strong with a 13-0 run. The Cougars increased their lead to 26-8 with a little over 10 minutes remaining in the first half. After a timeout by Lewis & Clark, ICC got to a 35-13 lead with 7 and a half minutes remaining. Lewis & Clark started to make their comeback, cutting the lead to 8, with ICC leading 42-34 at halftime.
Lewis & Clark came out of the half on a 16-2 run in the first 5 minutes back. With 11:21 left, Lewis & Clark had their largest lead of the game, 62-48. The Cougars defense got them back in the game, getting stops and turnovers to chip away at the lead. ICC managed to come back to be down by 6, 72-78, with 3:14 remaining.
The Cougars found themselves down 1 point, 78-79, with 1:22 left.
Javaughn Robinson secured an offensive rebound with 55 seconds remaining and was fouled. He made both free throws, giving ICC the lead, 80-79. Lewis & Clark scored with 18 seconds left, putting them up, 81-80.
Coach Wysinger called ICC's final timeout, drawing up a play that had Robinson find a wide open
Jaylen Brown, who hit a 3 pointer, giving the Cougars the lead, 83-81.
Jaylen McElmurry got a steal on Lewis & Clark's inbound pass and was fouled. He made both of his free throws, giving ICC the 85-81 victory.
The Cougars play next at #11 Parkland on Wednesday the 4th at 7:30.
