East Peoria, Ill. - Kam Heider's 20 points and 3 assists led the #5 Illinois Central College women's basketball team to a 92-47 win over Spoon River on Wednesday night in Region 24 action at Ramsey Gym. Heider went 6-8 from three-point range and helped the Cougars to 54% shooting as Ellie VanMeenen (career-high 14 points, 6 rebounds), Larissa Taylor (career-high 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists), and Maziah Shelton (double-double with 13 rebounds, 11 points, and 5 assists) also contributed for ICC.

The Cougars improved to 23-3 overall and 10-2 in Region 24 while SRC fell to 8-13, 4-7.

The teams traded baskets in the early going until ICC got their defense on track, thanks by a charge taken by Addy Engel which sparked a 13-0 Cougar run. Offensively, Engel, Lily Luczkowiak, Shelton, and two treys from Heider gave ICC a 25-9 first quarter lead.

ICC continued to pull away after Shelton and VanMeenen scored on layups for a 31-13 lead. Luczkowiak completed an old-fashioned three-point play (assist A'Meah Lester), Heider added another triple, and Piper Whiteman scored inside (assist Shelton) for a 47-20 halftime advantage.

The third quarter saw more good ball movement by the Cougars, with Taylor controlling the paint (8 points in the quarter), two treys from Heider, two jumpers from Lester, and a nice post move from Whiteman (assist Heider) for a 70-31 lead. The fourth quarter highlights were two treys from VanMeenen and a score inside by Emily Dana.

Final stats showed the Cougars with 27 assists and a 43-25 rebounding advantage. ICC also got great production off the bench, outscoring the Snappers 27-7.
