Springfield, IL - The Illinois Central College men's basketball team dropped 101 points in a close loss to Lincoln Land Community College, 102-101, on Saturday. The Cougars are now 15-11 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
Lincoln Land scored on their first possession, starting the game off strong. Then ICC went on a 15-0 run on five three-pointers by
Benjamin Goeh (16 pts),
Javaughn Robinson (26 pts),
Cooper Knoll (3 pts), and
Peyton Hess (12 pts). Lincoln Land cut back into that lead throughout the rest of the first half, and took the lead 49-45 going into halftime.
Coming out of the half, Robinson was fouled on a three-pointer and converted all 3 free throws, cutting Lincoln Land's lead to 1. Lincoln Land started to pull away after this, increasing their lead to 65-53.
But the Cougars would not back down, and they slowly made their way back.
Anthony Moore (11 pts, 12 rebounds) made a basket, putting ICC within 3 points, 87-84, at the under 4 timeout. Then, with 1:02 left in the game,
Rickey Coleman's (22 pts) layup put them within 1 point, 96-95.
The two teams exchanged baskets leading up to the end of the game, and Lincoln Land took the lead with 10 seconds remaining. ICC had a shot at the buzzer to win, but it fell short, ending the close game at 102-101, with Lincoln Land on top.
The Cougars' final regular season game is on Wednesday, February 25, at home against John Wood at 7:30 pm.
