East Peoria, Ill. - The #5 Illinois Central College women's basketball team rolled to a 111-39 victory over John Wood on Wednesday night in Region 24 action at Ramsey Gym. The Cougars clicked on all cylinders on both ends of the court as they shot 66% from the field, including 11-21 from three-point range with eight players reached double figures. Defensively ICC held JWCC to just 27% shooting and out-rebounded them 47-22.
The win moves ICC's record to 26-3 overall and 13-2 in Region 24 while John Wood dropped to 4-24 and 2-13.
The Cougars sprinted out to a 28-0 lead and never looked back as
Maziah Shelton had eight first quarter points and
Addy Engel had seven and the Cougars got treys from Engel,
Kam Heider,
Hannah West, and
Piper Whiteman to go up 34-6. ICC's offense continued to roll in the second period as Whiteman added another basket from long-distance and
Ellie VanMeenen hit a corner trey on an assist from Shelton for a 52-17 advantage.
West stayed aggressive in the third to score ten points while Heider added seven and
Larissa Taylor got in on the action with six points for an 83-31 lead.
Lily Luczkowiak scored eight in the final stanza, while Whiteman added two more triples, and
Emily Dana had a nice runner in the lane.
