Champaign, IL - The Illinois Central College men's basketball team lost to Parkland College, 81-94, on Tuesday in the Region 24 Tournament Quarterfinal. The loss ended the Cougars' season, finishing 15-13 overall.
Parkland opened the game scoring on their first two possessions. ICC came back and took a 5-4 lead that they held until the second half.
Jaylen Brown (21 pts) had the hot hand, leading the Cougars to a 13-6 lead at the first media timeout. At the under 12 timeout, ICC was up 23-16 on baskets by
Javaughn Robinson (12 pts).
ICC held onto similar leads for the rest of the first half, leading 33-24 at the under 8 timeout and 41-33 at the under 4 timeout. Parkland made a run on a couple three-pointers right before the half, cutting ICC's lead to 3, 47-44, going into halftime.
Parkland came out of the break on a 7-0 run, going ahead 51-47, forcing ICC to call a timeout with 18:31 remaining in the game. Parkland built up their lead, 59-49, by the first media timeout, increasing their halftime run to 15-2.
ICC fought back, but the closest they would get was 67-58 at the under 12 timeout, with an effort by
Peyton Hess (10 pts). The Cougars found production off the bench in
Jaylen McElmurry (12 pts), who is from Urbana, and
Benjamin Goeh (8 pts).
ICC was not able to stop Parkland's 3-point attack, as they made 7 in the second half. Parkland's biggest lead came with 3:31 left, 92-72. ICC finished the game on a 9-2 run, but it wasn't enough, ending the game at 81-94.
The tournament was highlighted by
Javaughn Robinson giving ICC consecutive MWAC Freshman of the Year honors after
Idris Thomas received the honor last year. Robinson was also named to the 2025-2026 All MWAC Men's Basketball First Team.
Jaylen Brown was awarded Honorable Mention Team honors.
