Diego Zamudio is in his second season as an assistant for Gabe Carreno. Zamudio has played his entire academic career in the state of Illinois, having gone from Waukegan High School to former Region 24 member Lincoln College, and wrapping up with Western Illinois University.
Zamudio was a two-time all-MWAC selection for the Lynx from 2006-2008, and would go on to be a key piece of the roster for the Leathernecks, getting Newcomer of the Year in 2008, Summit League First Team in 2009, and being a member of WIU's NCAA Tournament qualifying team in that 2009 campaign.
As quality a playing career Zamudio has had, his coaching career is quite extensive as well. Having been in some form of coaching role since 2010, Zamudio has made stops at Western Illinois (Student Assistant), the Indiana Invaders (Youth Coach), the Chicago Magic (Youth Coach), FSC Lombard (Youth Coach), and Coerver Illinois (Trainer/Instructor). In the last year or so, he has spent time with Peoria FC United as a High School Coach in 2023, and will also be on Coach Carreno's East Peoria High School staff in the 2024 season. Zamudio also carries six different forms of national licensure.
A native of Guanajuato, Mexico, he was born and raised in Waukegan, Illinois, and currently lives in East Peoria with his wife and two daughters.
