Greg Martin begins his 27th season as part of the ICC women’s basketball program and has been on the staff under every head coach that the women's basketball program has had (the legendary Lorene Ramsey, Steve Garber, Cindy Stein, and now Karrie Redeker).
For his longtime dedication to the gameand young people, Coach Martin was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches' Hall of Fame as a career coach in April 2023. He is also a member of the Greater Peoria Sports' Hall of Fame, having been inducted with the 2002-03 and 2005-06 ICC WBB National Championship teams as an assistant coach.
Greg got his start in coaching over forty years ago at St. Patrick’s Grade School in Washington, IL. After teaching for 18 years at the junior high level, he moved on to Washington Community High School where he taught in the Social Studies department. Coach Martin also served as the JV volleyball coach and JV and varsity coach of both softball and girls’ basketball while at WCHS.
A graduate of Eureka College, Greg retired from teaching at the end of the 2006-07 school year after 38 years in the classroom. As an assistant coach, Greg’s ability to listen, motivate, and encourage brings out the best of players in their mental approach to perform at greater heights.
Coach Martin and his wife Barb have been married 56 years; they have two married daughters, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He resides in Washington.
