East Peoria, IL-- The ICC men's basketball team used a strong late first-half surge to help them win their third game of the season, a 71-62 victory over Olivet Nazarene JV on Monday night in Ramsey Gymnasium.
Both teams were locked in defensively to start the game as the score was knotted at 16-all with 8:03 to go in the first half. The Cougars grabbed the momentum on back-to-back alley oops to
Kyle Hawthorne and
Lavell McIntosh and then
Zach Lewkowski got hot from three-point range, nailing three treys over the next three minutes to put ICC up 34-25.
Emaryon Byrd added another three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer to give ICC a 37-29 advantage
ICC stayed in control in the second half displaying a great effort on the defensive end to keep the Tigers at bay. The Cougars finished the night with 14 steals while forcing ONU into 23 turnovers. The Cougars are now 3-0, while ONU JV dropped to 0-3.
