Fort Dodge, Iowa - It was a tough lineup for the ninth-ranked ICC women's volleyball program. It may have started with a quick 3-0 sweep of William Penn JV, but then for the first time since November 2019, a three-match slide followed. Two of the remaining three matches (#11 Hawkeye and #2 Iowa Central) were against Top-15 programs. After the 3-0 win, the #9 Cougars won one set the remainder of the tournament, dropping the Hawkeye match 3-1, then a pair of 3-0 sweeps against North Dakota State College of Science and #2 Iowa Central, the tournament hosts.
Of note, the one set that the Cougars did win among their three losses was an impressive and hard-fought 30-28 battle in the second set against #11 Hawkeye. #2 Iowa Central taking the second set of their matchup with the Cougars 27-25 was the only set that saw an ICC opponent need to go beyond the 25-point threshhold.
It'll be just shy of a week off for the team before hitting the road once again, this time traveling to the Waubonsee Chiefs next Thursday evening.
