Danville, Ill. - The ICC men's basketball team (9-13, 2-5) was feeling good, coming off the snapping of a five-game losing streak on Wednesday. In front of them stood the 16th-ranked Danville Area Jaguars, who had defeated the Cougars exactly a month prior in both teams' MWAC opener.
Tony Mabon Jr. got off to a red-hot start for the Cougars, scoring 14 of ICC's first 16 points.
Although the hosts were able to get their lead up to 10 points during the opening half, ICC held strong and went into the halftime locker room down by all of one point, 32-31. Danville was able to make the most of their free throw opportunities, going 12-13 at the break.
Danville's 10-point lead in the first half is as far as either team got ahead. Nobody truly gave in, as the game would ultimately see 14 lead changes and 8 ties.
ICC turned to the offensive efforts of
Zach Lewkowski and
Lavell McIntosh to get within a possession of a top-20 win for
Tony Wysinger and company.
Fouls were aplenty, as the Region 24 foes combined for 46 fouls (ICC - 27 | Danville - 19). The Jaguars rode the hot start at the charity stripe, also going 12-19 in the second half, while ICC shot 9-16 for the game.
Ultimately, the Cougars would fall just short by a 73-69 final score.
The Cougars don't have much time off, as they return to game action with a rescheduled game against Parkland inside Ramsey Gym on Monday.
