Titusville, Fla. - The ICC Softball team (6-4) led off its trip to Florida on Monday with three games at Titusville's Chain of the Lakes Park, starting with a doubleheader against Alpena (MI), and wrapping up with a single game against Anoka-Ramsey (MN). The Cougars would ultimately sweep the day, out-scoring their opponents by an impressive 27-2 margin.
Game 1 - vs. Alpena (Cougars win, 8-0)
The Cougars hit the ball well in the day's opener, highlighted by
Sydnee Usherwood going 2-2 at the plate, adding two doubles and an RBI.
Priscilla Peek also had a 2-RBI double to her name in the win.
ICC also maintained good patience at the plate, drawing six walks against Alpena pitching.
Speaking of pitching, sophomore
Hanna Evans led the way in the circle, throwing a no-hitter. The IVC grad struck out 14 batters of the 15 outs.
The dominant effort was capped by
Hillary Mason scoring on a passed ball to set the 8-0 final score.
Game 2 - vs. Alpena (Cougars win, 10-1)
It would be a short turnaround before the Cougars played the same Alpena squad in Titusville. The bats that shut out the Lumberjacks in the opener did not wait to keep it going in game two. ICC scored three in the top of the first on Usherwood scoring on an error,
Allie Scrivner on a wild pitch, and
Priscilla Peek on a sacrifice fly from
Olivia Drish.
Peek would later hit a three-run home run as well, upping her game total to four. Usherwood continued her hot streak at the plate, going 2-2 once again.
Drish had the sac fly, but also succeeding in the circle. Continuing the day's theme of strikeout to total outs ratio, Drish did so - striking out seven batters within the 15 outs.
Game 3 - vs. Anoka-Ramsey (Cougars win, 9-1)
To wrap up the day's proceedings, the Cougars would face a new opponent in the Anoka-Ramsey Rams. It was another quick start for the ICC bats.
The Cougars got a 3-run home run from Drish.
Kiersten Manning had a good game at the plate and in the circle. The freshman collected nine strikeouts pitching, while adding two RBI at the plate.
