SB Pitches Doubleheader Shutout

Cougars conclude Florida trip Wednesday

3/15/2022 8:59:00 PM

Titusville, Fla. - The ICC Softball team continued its winning ways on Tuesday, sweeping a doubleheader from two Division-I programs in Southeastern Iowa and North Central Missouri to up their current win streak to five games and their overall record to (8-4).

Game 1 | vs. Southeastern Iowa | Cougars win, 9-0
In the first game of the day, ICC would cruise, starting with a four-run third inning. An RBI double from Alyssa Heerman, 2-RBI single from Olivia Drish, and RBI sac fly from Hanna Evans pushed the Cougar lead to 4-0.

After a two-run fourth, the Cougars would continue to add on, getting an Evans solo home run to extend the lead to 7-0. Evans was also dealing in the circle, striking out eight and only allowing five to reach base over the full seven innings of work. That stat line earned her the win and moved her season record to (4-1).

Game 2 | vs. North Central Missouri | Cougars win, 1-0
Game two saw a true pitcher's duel. In the end, the Cougars and Pirates would only combine for five total hits. Kiersten Manning had the Cougars side of things locked down, striking out nine over her seven innings.

So much of a pitcher's duel, in fact, that the game was still 0-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. After Drish led the inning off with a single, the Cougars got out twice, with Drish advancing to second on a passed ball amidst that.

Then came Sydnee Usherwood in the leadoff spot. Usherwood would double up the middle and advance to third on a throw, scoring Drish and giving ICC what would become the game-winning run.

She Said It - Head Coach Heather Doty:
"Great day overall. We held our opponents to five hits in the day and kept our composure when we had mistakes."
