Peoria, Ill.---The ICC softball team picked up a pair of wins over John Wood, 8-0 and 10-0, at the Louisville Slugger Sports' Complex on Thursday afternoon as pitchers
Hanna Evans and
Kiersten Manning both recorded shutouts. The victories moved the Cougars' record to 10-4 overall and moved their win streak to seven games.
Game 1 Summary:
The teams played to a scoreless tie into the bottom of the 5th inning when ICC took a 4-0 lead, highlighted by an
Amelia Johnson triple,
Sydnee Usherwood single, and
Priscilla Peek triple as the Cougars batted around the inning.
Usherwood doubled to lead off the 6th followed by an
Olivia Drish single. With two outs,
Hanna Evans and
Allie Scrivner blasted back-to-back doubles to center field for RBI followed by an
Alyssa Heerman RBI triple for the final margin.
Evans pitched a complete game, scattering four hits while striking out nine.
Game 2 Summary:
The Cougar bats started off hot in game 2 as Usherwood and Peek led off with singles.
Kiersten Manning smashed an RBI double that scored Usherwood and then
Olivia Stirnaman cleared the bases with a 3-run blast to center field that put ICC up 4-0 after the first.
Manning and Stirnaman hit singles to start the third inning and
Alyssa Beltran walked to load the bases.
Savanah Clifton hit an RBI triple that scored all three runners followed by a Johnson single and Usherwood double to stretch ICC's lead to 9-0. Manning added a solo shot to center in the bottom of the fourth inning to finish off the scoring.
Manning went the distance, striking out seven and giving up just one hit.
