#13 Lincoln Land Downs Cougars

Springfield, Ill.---The ICC baseball team ran into red-hot #13 Lincoln Land for the second day in a row resulting in losses by scores of 15-0, 18-8 on Sunday afternoon in M-WAC action in Springfield.  LLCC won their ninth consecutive game to move to 22-8 overall, 14-2 in the M-WAC while the Cougars fell to 5-14 overall and 2-10 in the league.

Game 1 Recap:
The Cougars collected five hits in the game but were unable to turn any of them into runs.  Lincoln Land got off to a hot start, scoring seven runs in the first inning.

Josh Heyder had two singles while Coltin Quagliano, Brody Reed, and Max Jones also had hits.  Joe Neelan suffered the loss, giving up five earned runs on three hits. 

Game 2 Recap:
Scorekeepers were kept busy during the high-scoring second game.  ICC got things moving in the first inning on a Quagliano lead-off single followed by Jones's home run on a 1-1 count. Lincoln Land scored three runs in the bottom half of the first and two more in the 2nd inning to go up 5-2.  

In the top of the 3rd, the Cougars pulled back to within 5-4 as Travis Lutz belted a two-run dinger (scoring Jones) but LLCC answered with six runs to go back up at 11-4.  

The Cougars continued to battle, responding with four runs as Ben Nofsinger had an RBI single (scoring Payton Bradford).  Cam Porter added a two RBI single (scoring Nofsinger and Jake Burge) to cut the Logger lead to 11-8.

Unfortunately ICC would be unable to score any more runs while LLCC added to their total.  Aiden Emery took the loss, going two innings, allowing five runs on four hits.  

Offensively, Lutz had three RBI, Jones went 2-2 with 2 RBI, Porter went 2-3 with 2 RBI, Quagliano went 2-3, and Nofsinger went 2-4 with an RBI.  Box scores of both games appear below.  

Next up:  The Cougars will host Southwestern Illinois on Wednesday, April 12 at 4pm at Thome Field.
