East Peoria, Ill.---The ICC softball team picked up a pair of wins over Lincoln Land, 8-4 and 8-0 on Friday afternoon in Region 24 action at Thome Field. The Cougars' offense cranked out a total of 20 hits in the wins to give pitchers
Hanna Evans (Chillicothe/IVC) and
Kiersten Manning (Normal/Normal Community) all the support they needed and move their record to 18-10 overall and 7-5 in Region 24.
Game 1 Recap
Alyssa Heerman (Mapleton/Limestone) and
Sydnee Usherwood (Atlanta/Olympia) combined for six RBI in the opening game as Heerman went 3-3 with a single and a triple for three RBI and Usherwood had a two-RBI single with the bases loaded and a solo homer for three RBI.
Alicia Casas (East Moline/Alleman) went 1-2 and added two RBI.
After LLCC went up 2-0 in the second, ICC responded with three runs of their own. With two outs,
Allie Scrivner (Washington/Washington) reached base on an error and then Heerman blasted her triple followed by a Casas home run to put the Cougars up 3-2.
Scrivner started a rally in the fourth inning by reaching base on error. Heerman singled, Casas sacrificed them over to second and third and
Amelia Johnson (Edwards/Notre Dame) walked to set up Usherwood's bases loaded single as ICC went up 5-2.
The Loggers answered in the fifth to draw to within 5-4 but ICC responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning as
Hanna Evans (Chillicothe/IVC) and Scrivner singled with two outs and were brought in by Heerman's single to give the Cougars breathing room at 7-4. Usherwood added her solo homer in the bottom of the sixth.
Evans picked up the win as she struck out seven Loggers and scattered six hits.
Game 2 Recap
Manning didn't allow a single run the as Cougars rolled in the shutout. She helped ICC score their first run, smacking a double and advancing to third on a Scrivner single, and then stealing home for the first score.
The Cougars added three runs in the fourth inning on a sacrifice bunt from Peek, an
Olivia Drish (Milan/Rockridge) sacrifice fly, and a Manning RBI single to go up 4-0 and roll from there.
Olivia Stirnaman (Dunlap/Dunlap) and Manning each went 2-4 while Peek went 1-3 with two RBI. ICC box scores for both games appear below.
Next up: The Cougars' game that was to be played on Monday, April 18 against Lewis & Clark has been postponed (as of the morning of 4/18) so the ladies will now play next on Tuesday, April 19 when they host Heartland in a 3pm double-header at Thome Field.
