East Peoria, Ill.---The ICC baseball team took advantage of Thursday's sunshine and won 8-6 in a mid-week non-conference tilt against Carl Sandburg at Thome Field.
Coltin Quagliano led ICC with a 3-4 effort from the plate while Conor Whitaker struck out seven Chargers in just three innings to get the win. The Cougars moved to 8-16 overall while Sandburg dropped to 12-16.
In the first inning ICC got their offense started as Quagliano had a lead-off single and was brought in on a
Ben Nofsinger home run to left field.
Tyler Wessels led off the second inning with a double and scored on a
Zach Otten RBI single. Quagliano added an RBI double to put the Cougars up 4-1.
CSC scratched two runs in the fourth to make it 4-3 but the Cougars scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning behind RBI doubles from
Brody Reed and Quagliano to make the score 7-3.
Sandburg added runs in the 6th, 8th, and 9th innings;
Kaleb Gauf added an RBI single in the bottom of the 8th for the final scoring.
Whitaker earned the win, allowing one run on one hit. Gauf recorded the last three outs to earn the save.
Next up: ICC will travel to Vincennes for a two M-WAC double-headers on Friday and Saturday at Jerry Blemker Field. First pitch on Friday will be at 2:30 pm CST and on Saturday at 12pm CST.
