SB drops NFCA Day & Sophomore Day Doubleheader

Cougars at John Wood on Tuesday

4/23/2022 11:08:00 PM

East Peoria, Ill. - The ICC Softball program (22-14) had a great opportunity to host a group of highly successful programs, teaming up with D3 power Rock Valley and D1 Indian Hills.

Game 1 | D3 #1 Rock Valley 7, ICC COUGARS 0
The Cougars were faced with a tough challenge out of the gate, when the Golden Eagles were able to tally their first run on an RBI double in the three spot of their lineup card. However, ICC would turn it around quickly with back-to-back outs to limit the damage at 1-0.

A groundout from Hanna Evans would advance both Sydnee Usherwood and Olivia Stirnaman into scoring position, but both were stranded. That would turn out to be the Cougars closest shot at cracking the run column, as the Golden Eagles' pitching was on their best game.

The defending NJCAA Division-III National Champions would add the finishing touches on the ballgame with a three-run home run in the sixth to set the 7-0 final score.

Game 2 | D1 (RV) Indian Hills 8, ICC COUGARS 5
ICC got off to a great start against the visiting Warriors. Olivia Drish sent a two-run home run over the left field fence, having countered an earlier home run from Indian Hills, equating to a 2-1 lead.

The Cougar lead would peak at 5-1 when Savanah Clifton grounded a single up the middle to score Priscilla Peek and Allie Scrivner

With six defensive outs to collect, the Warriors had not run out of gas just yet. A passed ball, RBI single, RBI single, RBI double, and RBI single all led to a five-run sixth and subsequent 8-5 lead.

That lead would be one that would not be surrendered. The Cougars were able to out-hit Indian Hills, 9-8.

What's Next?
The Cougars have Sunday and Monday off from games before returning to action on Tuesday, April 26th, at John Wood. The doubleheader against the Blazers gets underway with a game one first pitch of 2:00 PM.
