BSB Bested by Southeastern Iowa

Early 6-0 deficit proves too much for the Cougars

East Peoria, Ill. - A mere five days away, but the ICC baseball program (10-19, 6-14) was back at Thome Field on Tuesday afternoon, taking on Southeastern Iowa, a team the Cougars will return the favor and travel to in early May. There were no favors dealt in this one, as the Blackhawks found the scoreboard early and often in route to a six-run victory.

The Blackhawks brought seven batters to the plate, tallying just one hit, and the Cougars were also able to limit the damage with one run. With a second chance presented to them, Southeastern Iowa capitalized. This time around, the hit column was utilized. A three-run triple and RBI single powered the Blackhawks to a 6-0 advantage after just an inning and a half.

ICC was able to tally their first run of the game when Jackson Powell scored on a wild pitch in the third. They would continue to chip away, when Ben Nofsinger launched a home run out over center field for a 6-2 score.

Camden Porter perhaps had the Cougars' hit of the game, when in the eighth, he popped a two-run single out into left field, scoring Nofsinger and Jake Burge to get within a very manageable 7-4.

As mentioned, the 6-0 gap simply became too much, with the visitors able to add three runs of insurance in the top of the ninth on a three-run double.

The Cougars would get Nofsinger into scoring position in the bottom half, but the bottom of the ninth would ultimately come and go with a zero on the line score.

What's Next?
ICC has one day off from games tomorrow before returning to action on Thursday. They will head up I-74 to Galesburg and take on Carl Sandburg. This will be the second meeting this season between the two programs, as the Cougars bested the Chargers in East Peoria by a 8-6 score all of five days ago. First pitch on Thursday from Galesburg is set for 1:00pm.

Of note, there is a third meeting between Carl Sandburg and ICC on the schedule (second in East Peoria), but that will have to wait until May 11th.
