Godfrey, Ill. - 'On the road again' is more than just a few words in a song for the ICC Softball program (27-15). Continuing on Thursday afternoon, the Cougars have alternated road trips and home games over the last week. Having traveled to Lewis & Clark, ICC would combine for 20 hits over the twinbill.
Game One | ICC COUGARS 6, Lewis & Clark 1
Although the runs scored would stay mute for the opening few innings, the Cougars would race out to a 5-0 lead between the third and fourth innings. An RBI single from
Amelia Johnson scored
Allie Scrivner to tally the game's first run. That score would balloon when
Alicia Casas flew a three-run single into right field. Johnson would follow with yet another RBI hit to increase that lead to 5-0.
Meanwhile, the Trailblazers would answer with an RBI double during the next half inning, but that was all they could get.
Kiersten Manning was stellar in the circle, striking out nearly half (13 of 30) of the batters she would face in the outing.
Alyssa Heerman would fly a home run to center field to add some late-game insurance runs and set the 6-1 final score.
Game Two | ICC COUGARS 6, Lewis & Clark 3
Lewis & Clark did not wait long to hit the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead on a first inning RBI double.
Olivia Drish would continue her great run with a two-run home run in the third to take a 2-1 lead.
After the Trailblazers tied it back up in the fourth, Drish would homer yet again, this time a two-run liner and taking what would ultimately be the final ICC lead they needed.
The Cougars balanced the offensive attack with an RBI single from
Olivia Stirnaman.
Lewis & Clark would get within 5-3, but another instance of insurance scoring by ICC came in the form of an RBI groundout from
Hillary Mason to lock in what would ultimately be the 6-3 final.
What's Next?
Another short turnaround, as the streak of consecutive days played runs on. The Cougars will make the short trip on Eastbound I-74 to take on Heartland. Friday's doubleheader starts with a 2:00pm first pitch in game one. The Heartland doubleheader will have a live video broadcast from the Corn Crib, which can be found at

Series with the Hawks
Friday will be the third and fourth meetings this season between the Cougars and Hawks (12-22). The two programs battled what will end up as 10 days ago. It ended in a doubleheader split, with ICC taking the opener 10-2, and Heartland taking the nightcap, 10-6. The Hawks were swept by (RV) Parkland on Thursday by scores of 14-8 and 12-6.
