Cougars Fall To Lincoln Land; Tourney Run Over

5/20/2022 10:50:00 PM

Normal, Ill. - After a thrilling 48 hours of knocking out three higher seeded teams at the Region 24 Tournament, the #7 seeded Illinois Central College baseball team ran out of gas, resulting in an 11-1 loss to #2 seeded Lincoln Land on Friday night at the Corn Crib.  Playing their fifth game in three days, the Cougars just did not have enough in the tank to match the LLCC.  Lincoln Land advanced to Saturday's championship to face #1 seed Heartland, while ICC closes their season at 20-28.

"Our kids played hard to the end and we gave ourselves a chance to play for the title," head coach Brett Kelley said. "We had a lot of adversity and our guys responded well to the challenges."

The Logger bats were on from the get-go, scoring four runs in the first frame.  ICC held LLCC scoreless in the second inning, but the Cougar offense could not string hits together.  Lincoln Land tallied three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth to go up 11-0.

ICC scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth as Max Jones (Pekin HS) and Jake Burge (Tremont HS) each singled.  Jones scored on a fielder's choice.

Saturday's championship game will be at 12pm between the Heartland and Lincoln Land in Normal.  If Lincoln Land wins, the teams will play again at 3pm with the winner advancing to the World Series.
