Livonia, MI - The #20 Illinois Central College women's basketball team dropped a 70-54 decision at #15 Schoolcraft on Thursday evening. The Ocelots ruled on the boards, posting a 40-26 advantage to get the win and drop ICC's record to 2-3 overall.
The first quarter was the best for the Cougars, as they used an attacking mindset on offense and limited SCC to just two offensive rebounds. The Cougars had a variety of scorers as
Savannah Orgeron nailed a three-pointer on the opening possession and
Naomi Elliott had back to back scores to give ICC an early 9-8 advantage.
Miya Webb,
Elena Redgate, and
Cora DeSutter each had baskets to finish off the quarter and force a 17-all tie.
A three-point play by
Jhanel Coleman to open the second period gave ICC their last lead at 22-19 and the teams played evenly until the 3:20 mark until Schoolcraft went on a 12-5 run to close the half and take a 37-30 lead.
Schoolcraft hit a three-pointer to open the third period to go up 40-30 but Elliott countered with a bucket and then got two steals that led to baskets by Webb and
Saniya Tutt to cut the deficit to 40-37. However, the Ocelots went on a 7-0 run to push their lead to double digits and take a 57-43 lead heading into the fourth.
SCC opened the fourth period on a 6-0 run to increase their lead to 63-43 but the Cougars kept fighting as Elliott, DeSutter, Redgate, and Tutt all scored for the final margin.
